i posted a couple weeks ago about my troubles, but failed to respond to your responses and im sorry. I purchased a boat with a Chrysler motor on it, and basically don't know much about it.
Model number:856X5L
Serial number:2196
I would like to know what year this motor is and any tips or suggestions about rebuilding or changing the headgasket. Thank you soo much, and i will definitly be purchasing any parts and manuals i need in the future from you.

Your motor is actually a force not a chrysler. It is from 1985. The powerhead gasket is about 40 dollars. You can go to this LINK to order the part. Iboats sells the manual you probably want. Here is the LINK for the manual. The procedure is pretty straight forward however you should have the manual in front of you when you do it. Good luck

Is it odd that the motor cover is orange and brown and says Chrysler Skier 700? Also; What are the tell tale signs of a headgasket? How involved or difficult is a complete rebuild??

Re: headgasket/general question-chrysler

The last chrysler year was 1984. Your motor must have been during the transition from chrysler to force. When you say rebuild are you talking about just replacing the head gasket or are you talking about replacing the pistons and rings? The head gasket is easy and relativly cheap. Rebuid of the power head will be pretty expensive.
