Lower unit won't come out!!

i have a 35 hp 1987 force and i took everything off of it and it won't come down it's only down about 4 inches. please help!1

Down 4" sounds like the shift linkage is still attached.<br />Good luck

If the pin is out and it drops 4" sounds like all the bolts are out, drive spindle should almost be of so if it was twisted should still drop off, just thinking out loud sorry can't think of thing else right know

Bluefish is correct. There simply isn't that much play (4") anywhere but the shift linkage. Maybee the water tube is stuck in the pump discahrge flange? But there wouldn't be that much play there.<br />There is a 2" long nut with lock bolts on the shift shaft where it comes out of the leg,underneath the powerhead,on the starboard side.This is where the linkage has to be seperated.

A big 10/4 on seperating the shift linkage at the coupling bolt. It must come off to drop the lower end. Force is very specific on the reattachment of this linkage also.<br />Yell if you need this info. when reinstalling the lower end...
