Look again for the o-ring. If you cant find it dont worry too much. Tap gently the water pump housing down making shure you got the impeller and key in alignment. Look at the attachment. Items 25,29,30 are gaskets. Make sure you reinstall the big o-ring on top of the waterpump housing(42) Also think about replacing item (49) cause it can cause problems with older units.

Explain a little more about the play in the drive shaft..At the prop or the main drive shaft???? On the main 1/16 is ok. Did you replace the seals under the waterpump and in the water pump housing? Yes there will be just a few extra parts..The kits are for Mercrusier #1 and MR and Alpha drives.

I should have said 49 is a bushing and 50 is an oil seal for the shift shaft. They both need replacing and are not hard.. If you want the link e-mail me at trentcr@hotmail.com

Dont worry about the propshaft thats normal.
Item 28 is normally in most kits.
One last thing make sure you replace item 7 (o-ring seal)before you reinstall the lower unit.

Once you push all the impeller splines in, it should go down flat pretty easy. From the bottom, should be a gasket, the plate thats the bottom of the impeller housing, a gasket, the impeller with key. The housing is next, and usually sets flat easy. I find a little grease on the splines helps. You didn't put any orings or anything else inside the housing, right? Try putting the impeller in the housing first just to make sure it's the correct one.

You are turning the propshaft when trying to put the housing down?? Is it in gear..?Put it in gear and turn the propshaft while pushing down on the housing.
