I'm in the process of getting a manual for my new (used)engine but need some info ASAP. The main questions are the following:

1) What is the proper Champion spark plug code? One store is asking which ignition system and I don't even have a clue how to tell. The plugs in it are RL82C but this is not either on their list!

2) Is the best manual the Seloc or Clymer?

3) Is the year in the model number? My number ends in 91C and I'm thinking that means 1991. Just trying to make sure. I know the boat is 91 and believe boat and motor purchase new together.

4) Does anyone have some good links for more information on this motor? So far I have found www.yandina.com, www.outboardparts.com and www.maxrules.com.

Thanks in advance.

Re: 1991 50hp Force

the only thing I can help with right now is the manual selection, IM not really thrilled with the SELOC manual.

its ***d some good info, buts not organized like any other tech manual Ive ever had ( and Ive had several)

I find it really hard to look stuff up in it, and it lacks alot of details, and specifics, ESPECIALLY for a 50 Horse FORCE ( ivve got an 88 50 FORCE)

I have a 92 force 50hp and I use Champion L76V plugs. They are surface gap plugs. I also change them often.

Hey gfinale, the book list UL18V or QL76V for your 1991C 50hp. In 1992 they went to L76V and in 1987-1989 they used L82C.
As for books I use the Clymer and like it alot. Yes the 91C means 1991 model change C.
Good luck.

Since it is a 91 the RL82C plugs that are in it are the wrong ones. Now I just have to figure out whether it has a Thunderbolt or Prestolite ignition. Apparently this determines which of the two plugs dcsjr listed is the one.
