After a long search for a big water, ocean ready Starcraft (Islander, Chieftain, Holiday) that didn't cost me an arm and a leg, left me room in my budget for a kicker motor, and required minimal work to make it my own, I bought one last weekend - 1974 21 CHM4 I/0
The owner has always kept the boat covered and the owner before him apparently kept it covered too. The transom is solid and appears to be the second one (transom end caps are missing - anyone know where to get replacements). The floor is in good shape, but does need to be treated and covered. The original flotation is dry. There is some cosmetic work to be done with the interior, but most of it is minor. The current owner re-wired the boat using the original wires, which looked to be in great condition; he also put in new console gauges, a Perko battery switch, two house batteries and a starter battery; new 27 gallon and 12 gallon back-up gas tank and a new marine water pump for the sink. The cushions in the cuddy are original and don?t have any rips, tears or mold; the icebox is original. The boat was professinally painted 6 years ago and the bottom of the boat was painted last year with Petit Vivid Free antifouling paint over epoxy at a Marina that does good work. The canvas you see in the picture is about two years old and from what I can tell worth $800 - $1000. The zincs on the outdrive and boat appear to be working as they should.
The sterndrive is a raw water cooled inline 6, 165 HP Mercruiser that is in great shape and a refurbished pre-alpha gen 1 with a Mercury Alpha 4 prop. To see more pictures: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nomrwrk/sets/72157629251252186/
A BIG THANK YOU to Pugetsound who saw the boat on CL and told me to check it out. He was extremely helpful as well as all of you; the guidance and advice that has been posted on this forum was extremely helpful. I also want to give a shout-out to elkhunter338 who gave me some great information a year and half ago about is Chieftain and how it performed on the Pacific. The Starmada is awesome!
