Livewell pumps are not "lift pumps" so they cannot suck water uphill. You need to install the pump on the back of one of the pontoons. There is normally a bracket back there for that purpose. If you don't have one, then a fab shop can add one. Shouldn't cost a fortune. The left pontoon in the picture has the bracket I'm refering too. The pump is installed inside the bracket which protects it from debris.

Silvertip is correct. Livewell pumps won't "lift" the water but they will "push" it to some degree.

The pump needs to be mounted, down low, in the water, as shown.

Re: experienced live well operators

I took a 100 quart Igloo cooler , put a hole for a drain in the bottom center and another hole in the upper left back. I went to Home Depot and got a mop basin drain pipe and to West Marine and got a barbed 90 degree 5/8" nylon fitting. I screwed the drain in the center bottom with a little plumbers putty hooked a hose to it and it drains out the side.(I have a JC Tritoon solid aluminum underdeck) I put a blige pump on the rear of my right toon, as pictured above and ran a hose under my deck up through the floor where I wanted to mount the cooler and hooked it to the barbed fitting mounted through the hole in the left rear of the cooler. I ran wiring from the bilge pump to a switch on the console and I have a bait well that pumps water. I screw two treated 2"x6" s about 15" long to my deck spaced to support the ends of the cooler and mounted the cooler on them. I then tied the cooler down with a couple of small eye/lag screws put in the 2x6's and a long plastic cable tie on each end of the cooler. This is all mounted in front of my console.

Hope this helps.

This was pictures of my "dead" ( seized ) pump that was replaced. There is wire mesh that fits on the sides to help keep debris out.

Those little pumps will push that water a long ways. I have a 750gph rule pump on 24 feet of hose to pump water from down in the cool temps up to my Grayline bait tank.

This is my bracket and pump setup. Pump says 500 GPH but it's a 750. This pump has replacable cartridges. I deceided I needed more than 500 after I bought the new pump so I picked up the 750 cartridge and will save the 500 for a backup. My son-in-law is doing the same think you are. He didn't have the bracket/box on the back of his toon so he looked at mine and the last time I talked to him he said he'd found a guy at a boat dealer near his lake place who puts them on all the time. He said he'll have one welded on as soon as he can get the time. Didn't ask how much it was going to cost him but I don't think it was much.

Thats how that pump goes in there. I've been beating my brain on what type of pump and how it would mount. Guess you just run the hose to the livewell then huh? I was gonna take a storage type box that will fit into my seats, add a drain in the center and run a hose up on the side, didnt know what kinda pump i needed. That pic helps a ton.

Yes, you'll have to run a 3/4" livewell hose to your well. You'll also have to wire the pump to a switch on your consol or to the batt. and a switch at the livewell. Keep in mind that you're looking for a bilge pump not a livewell pump that gets water through the side or bottom of a boat. Same pump just setup a little differently.

Yes mine is setup like these at the end of a toon in the pump area. Now I need to replace the pump and just had the toons painted. I will have to touch up any paint I remove when I change the pump. Any better ideas? My boat is in the water all the time.
