we were at the boston boat and saw the new scarabs and they are sharp. But is it me that they look like a re badged seadoo. I know they have same motor in them as does the new jet drive glastrons.

Yes, BRP (parent company for Seadoo) makes the small jet boats for a number of manufacturers, including Scarab

Re: scarab

Motors and drives are limited to the manufacturers out there. It has been discussed many times when the "powerplant/outdrive" are the same but JD Power rated them differently.

All "new boats" in my opinion are like puppies ........ everyone loves a puppy.

So what did you buy? :D

Not true. Sea Doo no longer makes Jet Sport boats (since Sept. of 2012). BRP supplies the engine and drive package to Scarab and Glastron, which are made in the Four Winns/Glastron/Wellcraft plant in Cadillac, Mi.
BRP also supplies the same engines for Chaparral for their new line of Vortex jet boats.

It sort of is a Wellcraft. Made by the same parent company and in the same factory as Wellcrafts.

Re: scarab

Looks like they are all (the Chap especially) trying to ride on the Yamaha coat-tails with the overall design.

Not much else they could do. Yamaha's are selling, and their configuration for a sport jet is the standard. If it ain't broke, don't fix it....just copy what you can.

Yup, something about the best form of flattery being imitation . . .

Re: scarab

Even Sea Ray was going to give it a try, but they backed out. But they did make a few boats last year, and even their design looks similar.

Call me old fashioned but I like the triple (old school scarab) the new one's seem to have 0 room except to sit there and look forward. Do folks actually sit in the real seats facing back? New one's have nice colors but functional....not so much?

The rearward-facing seats are useful when putting on a wakeboard, slalom ski, or when sitting at rest. Obviously not intended for use while underway. Not much different from the common sunpad on most other runabouts.

In most states, its illegal to sit on those seats if the boat is in motion anyway. As haul mentioned, useful for watersports, and also just lounging...

I was at the show also as I was looking at all of the new jet boats. I have to say the scarab was beautiful but it was also 10K over the other jet boats. I think the glastron was 28K and the scarab was 41K.

In the end I couldn't talk myself into a jet boat and went with the GTS 185 in yellow with the 4.3. The boat show deal was by far the best I had seen.

Re: scarab

Machz , congrats on the new glastron. I think the new glastrons are sweat boats and have not heard of any complaints since the new owner ship of the brand.

Re: scarab

Thanks ! Yeah I really couldn't pass up the price plus they gave a 5 year power warranty along with the lifetime hull. I really like the look of their new boats and the fit/finish was as good as other boats in the same price range.
