My boat has been sitting in the backyard for about 4 years unstarted. motor only has 10 hours on it. it's basically brand new 1990 25HP.
boatmotor.jpg

I ran (consentrated about twice recommended amount before storage) stabil fuel treatment & removed one spark plug an sparyed fogging oil
into only one cylinder.it's a twin cylinder at the time I only saw the one spark plug.I also changed the lower unit gear oil before storage.

?do you guys think there is rust on the untreated (fog oil cylinder) if yes what shoud be done? (I haven't even tryed to turn the engine over yet.

? I can't see how to get a wrench on the carb. bolt near the starter
evinrudecarb.jpg

? can I just spary carburater cleaner into carb. with it still attached to engine add seafoam into new gasoline and be good?

side view of engine

I have been searching the net for write ups on how to remove and clean a small carb. only to see engine manuels for sale.

are there any write ups

any tips on restarting the engine is appreciated

Your motor looks exactly like my 25HP 92 Johnson & I had to remove the starter to get the carburetor off. There are several screws/bolts that are a pain to get at but you can get the starter out of the way. The screw/bolts are different lengths so make a note of where they go for reassembly. I would recommend that you disassemble the carburetor and soak it in a GOOD carb cleaner solution for a couple of days and then reassemble with a kit which you can get at this site, http://www.crowleymarine.com/johnson-evinrude/2236.cfm. I believe that your carburetor is the CARBURETOR-2530 20SEE-20SELE model/style but you need to check as I am no expert on this. Hope this helps.

been going though the engine paper work only found a crappie owners manuel good but very limited just basic oiling infor.

I bought this engine new back in 94 so I'm not 100% sure of what year model it is, Thought it was a 1990 guess I'll have to get the model # off the transam mount.it came w/ a credit card type card w/ model # still looking for that (maybe that will have the model #?

OK I thought the starter had to be removed. any write ups on removing the starter then the carb.?

? the linkage on the carb. how is that removed doe's it just pry off?

I'm amazed of the lack of write ups on this stuff, also amazed that I can't even save a crappie carb. exploded view you're link ( at least I can view it from the net).

I don't feel comfortable about being forced to buy a expensive manuel every manuel I've ever purchased where complete turds lousy black & white images infor. left out ect.

just feel uneasy about taking carb. apart w/ all the small parts inside then having to readjust it.

I'm planning on removing the carb. drain plug an inspect the fuel coming from the bowl if it by chance looks unvanished mite just fire it up w/ new fuel and seafoam.

Then replace the impeller I feel comfortable w/ this install.

Sorry to be so long just want to protect my investment (and get back on the water) I gave like $2700. for this engine.
Thanks for the surport
Thank you for the link I've read this link and search the net before I post. where are the how to's from regular folks these IMO are the best manuels.

Thank you for the surport.

One you settle the year/model deal, go here for parts diagrams:the manuel I have does'nt state a model # other than 20-35R, TE I'll check the # on the tranam mount to find out exactly what motor I have.

Thanks

You just need to know where to go. Shop manual is available from any BRP Evinrude dealer.

found the credit card type ID for motor purchased in 7/5/1996
model #E25TEED

looked at you're link only see a E25TEEDA don't see the E25TEED

can this be found out w/ serial # ?

or must I call evinrude?
Thanks

very nice link at the bottom of you're sig. I'll studying it.

the ID card that came with motor has a model# serial# & date of purchase 7/0/96
doe's this mean it's a 96 model?

looks like bolt #1 holds the starter ? where are the others holding it?

the carb. do'esnt look that diffacult to dissassemble & rebuild.

it's the retuning I'm concerned with

?if I count the amount of turns on each screw & put back exactly will it stay tuned?

you dont need to take the starter off the mount, just take the whole mount off, i think its 3 bolts.

I did'nt see a drain plug on the bottom of the carb. bowl however I did see a bolt on bottom of bowl (#25 on exploded view of carb above) with a small rubber tube attached to it loosened it and only a few drops came out it's kindof thick like oil.

here's an image of the fuel that came out. doe's it look varnished?

should I remove the fuel line from the fuel pump to drain there also?

removing carb.? edit I've never rebuilt a carb.

I have found that if I move the carbs. control linkage I can get a wrench on this bolt.

?is there a specical made wrench for the other side to avoid removing the starter braket?

Cylinder Walls ?C If not already, lay the motor so the sparkplugs are up. Remove them and put in a few squirts from an oil can filled with TCW-3 oil. Move the engine around so that the oil will contact cylinder walls. Allow it to soak for a day or two. By hand, rotate the flywheel a couple of times. If it resists rotating, allow to soak longer. When flywheel finally rotates freely, install new sparkplugs."
?1.the spark plugs are pointing to 9 O clock will the engine have to be removed from transome then laid down so the plugs are pointing to 12 O clock?
or can I get away w/ tilting I could probablley get plugs to 10 O clock.
?2.what is TCW-3 oil is this two stroke motor oil? I don't have a squirting oil can can I just pour oil in w/ a funnel?
??
?3."Move the engine around so that the oil will contact cylinder walls" can this be acomplished w/ tilting then returning to normal position?
??
yes I've added 4 more years to the orginal 4 total hours engine has sat unused is 8 years on a 10 hour engine.
I'm diffinitly gonna get her going this year.
Thanks TB

????----------Replace the water pump impeller.------Time is the enemy of the rubber impeller.---------Then start the motor and see how it runs.-------Likely will run just fine with no additional work !

yep thats fine.
water cooled engine
air cooled is like a lawn mower or chainsaw, they operate at faster rpm and a hotter, their lube is often red coloured
