So..., finally got new Humminbird 575
Installed and it works great except that when the boat goes
faster than 10MPH I get excessive spray from the transducer
I moved it high as possible without drilling new holes to the transom
but it didn't help much. Should I make spray guard or take the risk
and re-drill new set of holes ?
I hate to ad any more hole to brand new G3 boat ( DeepV)
The transducer is installed exactly as recommended in the installation manual.
It is fairly large ( quadrabeam)

If it reads well now, then I would fabricate a splash guard. I doubt you will be able to lose the spray with the large transducer. Is it mounted so that the bottom of the transducer is flush or just above the hull?..

Re: Finally got new Humminbird 575 installed - transducer spray :(

I tried flush and just above as well. (Within limit of mounting screws slots)
The problem is that on DeepV always part of the transducer is below
so I guess it scoops water when the transom starts rising out of the water.
The stream is straight up so it is unacceptable since it sprays all over the
motor and rear of the boat :(
Can someone point me to pictures of splash guard ?
I can't find any

Thanks

I have the exact same problem with my 575.I even drilled more holes and moved it up to the point it quits seeing the bottom if the boat is moving.Still have the spray.. It reminds me of a Yamaha Waverunner shooting water straight up.
Don't drill more holes! It will not help.
I was thinking about contacting Humminbird.I'm sure they have got complaints about this!
Let me know if you find a solution..

Thanks for sharing your frustration
I can't believe that they would sell something like this.
Did you install splash guard over it ?

No splash guard yet. It drives me nuts seeing that water shooting up behind the boat.I figure i'll try to fab up something to solve the problem.
Let me know if you find a solution...I'll do the same.;)

I contacted Humminbird and they asked me about my installation details.
Perhaps it would be good time if you email them as well :)
cservice@johnsonoutdoors.com

I also pointed out that they have wrong transducer listed for this unit on
the Humminbird website they promptly corrected that error :)

Thanks! I'll sure give them an earful tomorrow also! That transducer could have been designed better in my opinion...
Thanks for the link!

Great !
Today I taped shut the U profile that holds the actual transducer body.
I suspect that the transducer scoops the water and it spays
up via that opening. Will test it tomorrow since today
is raining like crazy :(

Let me know how the tape works.
I called them today and they keep saying its installed wrong...
The guy acted like he never heard of this problem.
We need to design a splash guard!

Update:
As expected the tape solved the direct upstream rooster tail.
Now I can at least use it before I make permanent splash guard :)

Post the pictures here. I'd like to compare it to the large 3 beam transducer on mine.

Re: Finally got new Humminbird 575 installed - transducer spray :(

I have the same problem on my Humminbird 797 C2 SI's transducer. It's a big Mother and no matter where I adjust the motors tilt I have to look back and see the spray coming off the transducer.

So you're saying you taped over the joint and that's where some spray is coming from?

If this is true then the splash guard one designs I would think would have to go on the bottom because if you put the guard on top it's not going to allow the transducer to release and pop up if it hits something.

Re: Finally got new Humminbird 575 installed - transducer spray :(

Today I got reply from Humminbird :

We do not have a quad beam transducer that can be mounted (stick on) on the underside of the boat ,except for the Bronze and plastic through hull in which you drill a hole through the bottom of the boat. The bronze and plastic thru hull transducers are no recommend for boats that are trailered.

The only thing we could recommend would be a splash gaurd for the transducer to prevent a spray from comint up on the over the transom if you are getting a spray that high.

Humminbirds response is unacceptable!

Please post a pic if someone fashions a splash guard or a link if we can buy one somewhere.

This is not a good thing that I've spent $999 and now I have to either buy or fashion a splash guard.

I'll email Humminbird a complaint and anyone else with these large style Humminbird transducers which throw off spray no matter what position it's mounted in should voice their complaints for Humminbird to design and send out splash guards at no charge for those of us that need them.

I'm going to send them this email and link.

These are the types of issues that force consumers to choose Garmin or Lowrance . . .

Re: Finally got new Humminbird 575 installed - transducer spray :(

I have the Humminbird 383c which has a dual-beam high-speed transducer. It does the same thing...lot of spray. I followed the installation instructions carefully and it does the same thing. It works good at high speed (tells me the depth, etc.) but it definitely sprays. I know you guys have tried raising the transducer so that it is barely in the water. I wonder if making the transducer set deeper in the water would help our problem?
