Hi everyone... 1st post, and 1st resoration project... I have read the forum a while and appreciate all the information I have learned from all of you.. (what a resource for information!)

I bought a Lund SportFisherman 2100 Last year;

Boat has been great for Trolling Lake Champlain for cold water species...

Nice ride and great plaform for fishing. I selected it because it's what I wanted, and
is not made new anymore. (Sylvan, Crestliner, and Lund as well as others have
all stopped making Alluminum cuddies for some reason)

Here are some recent catches of different species we are getting up here...
(I can post more if anyone is interesed, or point you to a forum where the
stories on each of these fish are told)
Nice Salmon and Steelhead

Nice Salmon and Monster Fat Brown my wife got during the LCI derby.

Well, being a 1989, this boat has some issues... None major... The hull is in great shape, as is the 4.3ltr LX Aplha 1.
The floor is going to get me another 2-3 years before it needs replacement. The guy I bought it from said the foam
was dry, but after reading here, I bet it probably isn't... Although I can get 36mph and a good time to plane it seems
heavy to trailer, and I suspect it's wet.

But judging from the dash and instrument panel, I have a priority #1 item to tackle.....

The main issue is that the dash and instrument panel are rotted and the whole instrument panel is starting to sag.

Looks like years of poor covering in rain from a previous owner caused this. I will also need to replace the Speedometer
as it is broken. I will also want to replace most of the wiring and install a new fuse block and Stereo on the build up as
well as install all my old fishing electronics and a couple of 12v outlets.

I can't wait much longer to replace this.
Looks like as soon as the salmon bite slows in early Sept, I am going to start my 1st restoration. (nervous to dig in)

I plan to take many pre and during pics and keep them posted here as I need help..
The only thing I am certain about is that I will need help!

My 1st question is what type of board should I use?... I am leaning toward exterior plywood for dash and instrument panal after reading previous posts, but am open to what you think?? Should I use same material for both?

Also, does anyone know of a source for the original wiring diagrams for this boat? I have looked around the web some and can't find them.

Thanks for any help I can get!

Y'up, that's really sad, as I'm sure it's a total loss. Those old aluminums aren't very desirable, and bring more at the local recycler than anything else. At least you've got that.

(wait for it..........almost.........there it is!!! All the Starcraft owners just passed out with anger over that statement. Buwahahaha!!!)

Just kiddin' of course. Nice lookin' rig and don't start fretting about the restore, you'll be fine I'm sure and there is tons of help right here in the forum. Look forward to watching it progress.
ev
If it were me, I'd try to source that stuff they make plastic cutting boards from. Strong as all you could ever need and indestructible. Good luck!!!

Welcome "local" person to iboats!

Wood....... regular 1/2" exterior plywood covered in fiberglass or epoxy will last a LONG time. You could use starboard plastic sheets or even some people have used sheet aluminum for their dashboard.

Wiring diagrams ar going to be tough.

Your will need the harness diagram from your 4.3 which would be in the engine manual AND you would need a standard lighting wiring diagram......... Possibly Lund Publishes their own. Have you asked at Woodards Marine in Bomoseen (a Lund Dealer).

It may seem intimidating but it really is not that bad. You can take apart your old dash and label all the wires (carefully) and if you need to replace any of the wires......use Marine Rated wire (available the cheapest from Interstate Battery in Rutland).

Shoot me a message anytime since I am local too.

Oh..... beautiful fish!! Stop giving away our Champlain secrets :D

Where are you located?

Just my opinion but dump the speedometer since they are not real accurate....... use the gps on your phone, a handheld etc.

I will send you a PM.

What material have you decided on? Looks like you have 3/4" plywood already, and it doesn't look to be in bad shape from the last pic, was there another piece of plywood on top of what's there in the last pic?

It just looks like you need to remove the windshield and dash, then sand it down and put another covering on it.

Have you considered a marine vinyl like Nautolex?

Good choice to start this now, resins and adhesives take much longer to setup in cold weather.

Re: 1989 Lund Sportfisherman 2100 - New Dash and Instrument Panel

Real nice rig. But I'm biased because I'm in the market for the 21 foot Starcraft Islander which looks exactly like your Lund. I too am up on Champlain maybe 5 times a season.

I'm looking for the Islander with the bracket which allows an outboard and frees up the deck from the I/O. I never knew Lund made that style. But they probably never made the outboard bracket model like Starcraft did. I would have preferred a Lund over a Starcraft just for the build quality. I think 2006 was the first year Islander had the bracket option.

I think your right about the foam being wet becaue if the dash was in that bad a shape then the boat was probably left uncovered for most of it's life. Once I got my Humminbird GPS I don't think I've ever put the speedometer leg in the down position in the water again.

We like to hang out in the Burton Island area when we are just cruising around after launching from the NY side. I like crossing threw the Gut. It can be windy as hell on the NY side and the Inland Sea, but once I'm in the Gut it's so calm it's spooky. It's like being in the eye of the storm.

Those are some great looking fishies :D

Re: 1989 Lund Sportfisherman 2100 - New Dash and Instrument Panel

Thanks for the input guys. There was alluminum under the dash plywood. I think the previous owner had a water leak on port side in his cover, starboard side plywood was solid. Removing screws for instrument panel today. Hope i can get to em all. Not sure if i want to cover new plywood with vinyl, or just paint it?

Re: 1989 Lund Sportfisherman 2100 - New Dash and Instrument Panel

Well, it's dealers choice on what you use.

Some people will use exotic wood to look good, vinyl, starboard, plywood, paint...... consider anything you might be mounting to it in the future and what you will have to drill trough.

Yep it's obvious you need to track down that leak. It might be as simple as replacing or re-sealing the windshield gaskets and mounts.

I am surprised how punky that dash really was......held together by the old vinyl coating which held moisture inside!

Paint or vinyl will both work, or get a good grade of ABX plywood and urethane or varnish it for a nice woodgrain look.

It's all good and it's your boat to do whatever you want, and no matter what you do it'll look a heck of a lot better than it did before you started.

Looks like you got a good start. If you could find some sheets of that cutting board material (I can never remember the name) it would last practically forever.

Re: 1989 Lund Sportfisherman 2100 - New Dash and Instrument Panel

Got instrument panal off. All guages and wires intact. I think i am going to leave them there untill i get new panel cut and drilled and transer guages just before i mount panel.

Not obvious how to dismount a guage. Do the faces screw in? No mount screws that i can see.

Re: 1989 Lund Sportfisherman 2100 - New Dash and Instrument Panel

Well, here is the final post with completed picture... All seems to be working fine, but I will not know for usre until I am able to get on the lake Friday and water test everything.... Took about a month and a half to complete. The fish are starting to be active again, so it looks like I am done just in time... Some of the best Lake Champlain cold water species fishing is in Oct/Nov and I am not gonna miss it!
