Hi folks well I found another classic aluminum boat to rebuild . It is a 1974 CRESTLINER NORSEMAN DC 19 outboard , and it's in pretty good shape ! I got it without an outboard , but it came on a sweet 2006 galvy roller trailer , price $900 . I started guting it yesterday to rebuild the floors, bulkhead along with the helm. I have rebuilt a lot of aluminum boats but never a CRESTLINER, so I was wondering if any of you folks have some photos of what it looked like new ? (interior) I want to bring it back to original or as close to that as I can . any help would be great I will post some photos tomorow Thanks

Thanks for the reply Mark , funny you should ask ,we just finished rebuilding a 1989 SUZUKI 115 power head and lower unit, we mounted it today and fired her up, she runs great now , should get the CRESTLINER going pretty fast . I plan on putting on a 15 hp. kicker also for trolling , I am working every day on her only a short time before the striped bass start there run around here.next step is installing bilge pump, wireing and rigging her .

That suzie will do the job no worries.....good dependable mills with plenty of power.

I hope to get out in my rig for the first time this season by early March......February is the final month of summer here :rolleyes:.....i know, too much work not enough play......the weather and fishing should still be okay for a good while yet though.

What did you seal the deck with? Are you going to cover it with anything else?

Is that some kind of patch on the transom?

That's a very cool old boat and I'd love to have one just like it!

I can't wait to hear how she runs and handles. I'm putting a 130hp I/O in my Crestliner. Not many of these Crestliner DC's out there, the people that have them say they love them. I've never had mine on the water but can't wait to see how she handles.

Thanks guys , I sealed the floor with fiberglass ressin then 2 coats of oil base paint (both sides) I plan to either put in new carpet or cover it with color matched RINO LINER (like in the bed of a pick up truck). There are no patches on the transom just the drain plug cover access plate in the floor, Yea it has a hugggge splash well guess that was the style back then . will post some more when I get a little farther along ,

Re: 1974 crestliner norseman dc rebuild

Hi guys, progress slowed down do to my beloved PATT'S loosing to NY (day off for mourning) HA HA , I found that I need new control cabels for the SUZUKI the one's that came with it were way to short, I orderd them today. I laso found that I had a small tear in the aluminum on the plash well on a seam. So I have got to take care of these problems before I move on to the riging , Also there was a small 15" x 17" plywood fold down door in the port side bulkhead , I thought I wood put a lexan window in insted of a wood door , but am having a problem finding a .50 thick piece of lexan , Any of you guys got a place that sells smaller pieces ?? every were I looked you have to but a 1/2 sheet $639 that is way to expensive and I dont need a 1/2 sheet . Any help out there Thanks

Re: 1974 crestliner norseman dc rebuild

Had a gallon of BONDO resin left over from the 22" STARCRAFT HOLIDAY I rebuilt last summer , I just sanded down the new plywood with 120 grit paper then flowed the resin over the plywood . when dry I re instaled it , roughfed the resin up and painted it ,still needs one more coat of paint There is still a bit of work to do for the final covering ( carpet or rino lining) ???.still not sure which way I will go ??

Re: 1974 crestliner norseman dc rebuild

Sorry to tell you this, but the bondo resin with out fiberglass mat will eventually crack and delaminate from the wood. I must be used in conjunction with the mat to blend into a uniform strong one piece unit. I may hold up for a while but eventually it will happen. The Styrene in the resin breaks down the fibers in the mat to make a chemical bond with everything. Epoxy does not require mat or cloth but polyester resin like bondo does require it.
