Any one know where the aluminum siding can be located for an older houseboat? This boat is maybe a 1970s Drifter. If has been on fire and one side is warped up pretty badly. I have not purchased this boat just considering so no pics yet.

Re: HELP House boat siding

Every large city has a metal supply warehouse selling aluminum sheeting. Check with your local RV dealership or mobile home dealership--they'll know where to get aluminum sheeting. My town has two large metal building manufacturers that sell painted flat aluminum sheeting.

My RV has aluminum siding, however I wouldn't make that mistake again--black streaks are virtually impossible to remove. I would prefer to use the same slick finish siding used by RV manufacturers on any RV or houseboat.

Supplies to rebuild and rewire houseboats are often found in RV stores--or can be Googled.

Thanks man. This stuff is not smooth and I wanted to do the one damaged side. My son said he would go with vinyl house siding. Any thoughts on this?

Re: HELP House boat siding

My dads house boat has whats called hurricane siding. This stuff is awesome and very low maintenance. It is more expensive but worth it! It also has a r-value because it is filled with foam backing. The siding also doesn't bend like regular siding because of the foam backing it is more ridgit. Makes for a better look for sure. Looks just like regular siding but is good for hurricane force winds. I will get you a pic here shortly. Don't waste your time on metal, it dents to easy and fades in alot of sun.

Pic of the end of the siding, you can see the foam. sorry, phone camera pic,not the best.

Re: HELP House boat siding

The siding is metal with a texture. Like the old 70s pull behinds or rvs. The aluminum guys around here say they can not match it. SO now I need something to reside the complete boat. Still collecting prices and information before I pull the trigger and buy this boat. She is a steel hull, that has just been replaced with a 302 ford in front of a merc that I have loads of extra parts for. Are you repairing the lamination or replacing the panels?

Hey Oops, not to hijack this thread but could you post some pics of your house boat project? Didn't know that you were working on one.
As far as this thread, I would go with vinyl siding.
