I just spent a considerable amount of time on the telephone with Sebina Unger the CEO of Seacast. What a great and helpfull personality. I am sure I will fly thru my first transom repair with no problems with her as a coach. Just a little background, I was not previously a bass boat kinda guy more on the pontoon boat side. Well a few weeks ago my father-in-law who I have upmost respect for passed away and left me his 86 Stratos. I told my father-in-law that I would take care of his boat and pass it on to his grandchildren one day. Well the first day on the lake was eventfull as the bilge filled like Niagra Falls. When we pulled the boat out of the water it was obvious the transom was shot and luckily the motor was still attached to the boat. I will document my build of the boat on here as we can all learn from each other's techniques. What may work for one may work better for someone else or not at all.

Thanks, I will eventually figure this out. I think posting pictures is harder then re-building a transom.

Here are a couple of shots showing the damage. I made the decision to cut the fiberglass because it was basically broken all the way to the top. I ordered the fiberglass and it's about $100.00 to replace the bad section. Hopefully the glass will be in this weekend.

Troy,
Not sure what is happening but Attachments still not working. Are your pics on your PC? How BIG are they?

I think I have it figured out. Here are two pics, one showing the broken fiberglass with the cap removed and the other taken about 30 minutes later all cleaned out. Cool thing is I bought a chain saw and didn't have to use it. I guess the wife will get her trees trimmed this year.

Wow, well ordinarily I'd be like OMG you cut your transom skin! but in this case, you're right, it was pretty well worthless as is. I will be interested to see how you tackle this. So glad you didn't lose your motor! Welcome to the forum Troy.

You can use a piece of waxed melamine to layout and fabricate a NEW Inner skin for your transom if you still plan on pouring a Seacast transom. You can use 1/4" pvc tubing for spacers when you install it. Works great. Archbuilder, another iBoater did it on his rebuild.
