Well, seeing how I?ve been poking some of ya?lls minds with questions on the ol? Johnson motor, figured I?d post up on the boat itself?

Had a few extra bucks this past December and decided to take on a boat project for the kids and me to use this summer. This is my first boat project and don?t know dip squat about fixing one up. I do have a bunch of ideas though! I have a LONG automotive background so understanding the engine is coming along quickly. Got the 65 Johnson all tuned up and rebuilt the carb and she?s purring like a kitten?no more smokey, congested sounding, missing out jitterbug of an engine. Still need to put in the impeller and reseal the lower unit.

This isn?t a full on restoration. It?s a budget build using scraps and parts either found or from the local boatyard. Goal is $1000?ish build including the $500 for the boat, engine and trailer.

Tally so far?
Legal fees- 100
Tires- 70
Battery- 80
Tune-up- 120
Plywood- 140
Windshield frame/Rotary steering setup with wheel/ Speedo- 40
Lexan sheet- free
Aluminum sheet- free
Engine control cables- 35
Steering cable- 15
Nuts/bolts/washers- 25
Varnish- 35
?yeah, I know! It?s a tad over 1k?but not by much?
...oh yeah, I found a sweet deal on a like new 55# trolling motor- 100

At the time of purchase she was all stripped down and converted to a fishing boat with stick steering.
?
She ain?t nothing fancy but here are a few pictures of some progress?

As I got her?ahh...snow in Texas!!!

That's all for now. This is po-boy style and may not be up to some folks standards but it's what I got and the youngins are getting pumped!..me too!

My piece of the pie....

its not about what you have in it, its about makin it yours, crestliner might have built it originally, your time and effort will bring you and the kids more joy than you can inagine.
good luck, looks great for what you have in it.

Neat boat! You're going to have a lot of fun with that. For the most part I really like your mock up. The rear bench is great, the boxes behind the front seats are also great. My one suggestion would be to ditch the full back rest for the front seats and go with 2 flip up seats. Much easier to crawl up, around, and over when you're out on the water.

Thanks fellas...

This is MY boat...there are many like it...but this one is MINE!!!...:)

Yeah, I've been pondering a way to make 50/50 fold down seat using the ply...

Cool project IronWill, it's great to get the kids pumped about helping dad with the rig and getting on the water. In a few years my two boys oughta be pretty helpful when I restore a bigger boat.

It sure beats having them watch tv all day like most rugrats these days:)

Awesome deal on the 55lb Minn Kota, I'm looking for one myself.

Good luck with the project!

Very nice.
I am working on a Crestliner 810 Commodore 14'

I'm a little jealous, yours is rated for 60hp max and I am stuck at 35hp max.

Well, we had her out for the 4th time now and really enjoying this little boat. Took the kids to a couple of fall festivals by the water as well as doing some fishing and cruising. I think this little project turned out good.
