Dog house ideas needed

Spring is just around the corner and I need some ideas to fix my dog house and rear seats, which are trashed. I am looking for something fairly inexpensive, or something that I could build myself. The boat will be used primarily for fishing. I have a gas tank on one side and a battery box on the other. Any and all suggestions are welcome, be creative as possible!

Here is the space I have to work with.

Ayuh,... Do you want rear seating, or Not,..??
I deleted mine,...
It's a fishin' boat,+ I walk all around the transom tending lines,...
Occasionally catchin' fish...

I built a 1/2" P/T box, as tight to the motor as I could,+ covered it with foam,+ vinyl...
Then vinyl,+ foam curtains to close in the sides,... Really cut the motor noise...

Passengers sit on padded coolers along side the cockpit....

Yes I do still want two seats, sorry if I wasn't clear. The seat frames are shot and have been thrown out. For the dog house I'm throwing around the idea of making it out of stainless and covering the top and front with white cutting board material. I can get the material for free, so price isn't an issue. Would there be any large drawbacks to this idea?

You've got the exact same setup as me. I've built the frames for my jump seats as the gas tank fits exactly inside on the right. My battery boxes and what not will fill up the left side.

My existing dog house, or what's left of it, sits tight on top of the bottom cross brace and destroys the vinyl. I'm thinking of either coming over top of the cross brace for it to sit on the floor or just back of it keeping relatively the same shape.

I like the rod holders in the previous pics. I'll probably add a couple of drink holders and that will be it.

Think of some really cool setup so I can copy you :)

Re: Dog house ideas needed

For my new dog house I'm following two rules:

1) Make it small as possible
2) Make it as quiet as possible

1) is being accomplished by careful measurements plus diagramming out how airflow will work. I don't want too much heat to collect, but the smaller the doghouse the better. I'm measuring my engine carefully, allowing for a little movement, and building as short and narrow as I can. Plus the doghouse will serve double duty as a bench and tank rack, with hard points (spots to attach bolts) to permit me to attach other gadgets later.

2) I'm doing by creating a sealed engine compartment (not quite watertight, but close)... basically I'm building the surrounding structure to avoid having any gaps between bulkheads and the doghouse for sound to escape. I'm also going to line the doghouse with reflective foil sound damping mat, either something meant for marine use or something meant for car use under the hood. The quiet should be well worth the effort. V8s are loud. Plus a nearly sealed compartment should let me use a built-in halon type (whatever the halon replacement is) extinguisher later if I want.

I'd think it hilarious if you actually converted a dog house from a pet store into an engine housing, by the way :)

Okay, sorry it has taken so long to reply, but here is what we came up with. The frame is made out of stainless. The top and front of the dog house is the same material as the deck, it's basically cutting board. The sides are stainless panels. It is a little bit heavier than the old wood one, but not as heavy as I thought it was going to be, and it will never rot so it is worth it!

I would like to install some sound proofing on the inside of the new dog house, any ideas on what material would be best? Also, do you think there will be too much heat buildup now that the frame is stainless? Should I think about installing vents on the sides of the dog house?

probably would be a good idea to put some kind of vents in , how was it vented before?
here is a picture of mine and there is 4 clam shell vents across the back.

The old wood one was not vented at all. I also have 4 clamshell vents on the back in the same spot as you, but I'm curious if there will be more heat build up with a metal enclosure as oppose to a wooden one.

Maybe the picture doesn't show them...but I'd want some vents to bring in lots more fresh air...its an internal combustion engine after all...it needs O2 to run, and air circulating to keep it from blowing you up...

You can see the vents in this picture, there are two forward facing vents, and two rear facing ones. Do you think this is enough?
