Re: Glassmaster seacast transom repair

I am also in the process of a transom repair with Seacast...22' Pursuit. Mine is going hard I had to remove 2' of the inside liner and the outside skin of the tramsom. It seems it is important to remove all of the wood and clean surfaces best as possible. Probably would hurt to sand if you can as it is important for the seacast to bond to the skin. Putting wood back in the transom didn't make since to me. I did a lot of reading before I purchased it, didn't see anything negative. I'll post some pictures soon. Good luck with your project.

Re: Glassmaster seacast transom repair

Well, I did the first pour on Monday, it went very well. The stuff is really as easy to mix and pour as they say! Don't use a battery powered drill...I have a 19 volt craftsman, and each battery lasted about two minutes before I had to break out the big daddy 110v/10 amp DeWalt. Unfortunately, I ran out of seacast about 2 inches from the top of the transom, so I ordered another 2 gallons; hopefully that'll be in soon.

for 2 inches you coulda just used regular resin with strand and talc, too late.

Whats that thing in front of the windshield ..a horn?
Looks like aaaooogahhh !

I still have the risers to do too...otherwise I would have just used resin. haha that thing in front of the windshield is the "fail horn" as my brother calls it. It works, but i still need to fix the bent mounting bracket. And it does go aaooogah!

Re: Glassmaster seacast transom repair

Been busy lately haven't update this at all. I finished pouring a week ago, man this stuff is STRONG! I had some left in the bucket and beat it with a sledge hammer, etc, didn't budge. Me and two friends can hang on the transom and it doesn't even flex.

Pettit Easypoxy rolled and tipped on. Doesn't look immaculate, but goes on easy looks perfect from +1 foot away, which is fine by me!

Once that dries, I have to put the cap on the transom, then the engine goes back on and she's water ready. Still working on that swim platform, I have to make a bracket for the port side because the spashwell's so wide. For more strength, I'm also putting a 1/8 in thick steel plate between the engine mount and the transom.

Weather finally broke here, I got around to catching up to you.

But you're supposed to grind all that rust and dirt from the outter skin at the top of the transom before applying glass tape to seal the seacore.

I also had a rough finish to the seacast on the risers like you do, I ground the peaks off then used some resin w/cabosil to thicken it, puttied it on smooth, then applied the tape whilst it was still wet and a splash of resin.

I got a sunburn yesterday for my trouble, maybe wait til later today.

Your fairing job looks good.
I have an 1/8th inch plate on mine but its from the previous owners feeble attempt to fix without repairing. I couldn't be bothered removing it .

That rust isn't rust but seacast that was spilled during the pour, I am going to grind it down level before I cap the transom, which I'm going to do first with fiberglass cloth, then an aluminum channel I made.

Finished :D

I can jump up and down on the anti-cav plate and it doesn't budge a bit.
