I haven't done a deck job in 2 years but I have a few lined up for the spring already. I was curious as to what people out there were using as far as composites go. Has anyone tried laying up trex or similar plastics in place of wooden stringers??? or is pressure treated still the way to go? How bout decking? Is anybody out there using a replacement to ply that glasses well? Love to see what some of your thoughts are.

i don't like PT, the new chemicals are not compatiable with metal fasteners. it eats the metal screws even stainless. trex is heavier than wood.

How about the PVC products available in standard lumber dimensions?

PVC boards are lighter than some of the other plastic stuff, but still have very little strength. So if you want something that is light and cheap, and if you're not looking for it to add strength, you can use PVC pipe (cut in half), cardboard tubes, foam, Penske board (very costly) or anything else you can get that will hold it's shape long enough to be glassed over.
