I replaced that exact shifter with a Volvo model last December. I can't remember exactly how the lever comes off but I somewhat recall having to take the center button out in order to take it off though.
It's nice being able to use that shifter again so that you don't have to change the cables. Personally, I like the design of the newer Volvos one better. You could use it but you would have to change your throttle cable.
The new shifter came today, (thank you iboats.com marine store) it is the exact replacement for my boat.. i should be back out on the water this weekend..
Good for you...I was sure that shifter wasn't made anymore...I was wrong. I have had that shifter on two boats before and they worked well. My last one basically wore out and had too much slop in it.
I installed the shifter today, it was very easy, thanks Bruce for replying.. i just got back from the lake and it works great, trim up & down no problems, throttle lock works now too. Yep im a happy camper..
I know that shifter was not cheap. That exact one was in my old boat and i think every original replacement i looked at was around 400 or so..
glad it works good..
