Just picked up an aluminum project boat and need help identifying year and model. The hull ID number is 7057 and the decals say "Naden". It's a 16' runabout. I tried to google the name and came up with a Canadian company that does not make runabouts and an electronic scoreboard manufacturer with a similar logo. Any help appreciated.

Re: HELP identify this Naden boat

are ther any letters before the number, if not it is probably before 1972 if US manufactured. post some pictures.

load your pictures to photobucket, then clik the small box under the pictures you want to post, go to the bottom of the page, clik generate HTLM. it will go to another page, about the 3rd section down it will say thumb nails for message boards, clik the box, and copy. then when posting in the forum, at the end of the post just paste the HTML, and click add reply. this is the easiest way to post pictures

Thanks for the responses! Feeling a bit thick, here. What is photobucket? I tried the website Bob VT mentioned, but the don't offer any runabouts. I e-mailed the company last week and haven't heard from them.

The number has no letters before it, I'm pretty sure it's pre-1970's based on the hull style and the deck hardware.

google photobucket, it's a free site you upload and store pictures, so you can post them. you can just post on a site from your computer. the site genterates the picture to the HTML that the site understands.

If you are doing a resto, those decals on the sides will probably be destroyed.

They can be reproduced fairly easily, though:

- Photograph them with a hi res digital camera (4 mega pixel or higher) as close as possable in good lighting.

- Do a little "photoshop" on them to repair damaged areas and restore faded color.

- Pick up some "Bumper Sticker" printer paper available at some office supply stores or over the internet. It is waterproof, fade proof, vinyl paper for your PC printer. After being printed with regular printer ink, it dries to a water proof finish. Then just cut and stick on your new decals!

One of the nice aspecs of this is that even if they only last 3 or 4 years, you can always print and apply new ones until better paper hits the market. Digital is for ever. Don't forget to burn the finished photos on a CD or two for safe keeping.

Nice looking boat. Great find!

Thanks for the info, I'm going to do that. I checked out your MFG Niagra - nice job! Mins is going to take a while, I want to refurbish the old Mercury as well (1967 650). No hurry, I hope it comes out as well as yous did. I plan to do the windshield the same way you did, I'll read your article.

I wish I had that windshield too! I'm going to try making on out of 1/8" Lexan when I get the time.

Re: HELP identify this Naden boat

My heart was beating so fast when I saw your Naden boat pictures. You see, I am married to the family who lovingly designed, built and manufactured these boats. What you have there is a truly wonderful boat.

I know that it is one of their boats for sure b/c of the logo and seat designs.

These Naden boats were built in Webster City, Iowa by two brothers. (One was also the Speaker of the Iowa senate for a number of years.) These brothers also created one of the first versions of the electronic score boards, which is the score board website you pulled up. After a long time of doing both, they decided to focus on the score boards and sold the design and such to a company in Canada. The Canadian company still manufactures the boat under the Naden name but changed to logo to get rid of the fin outline and place a maple leaf above the "e"

Personally, you couldn't have picked a better boat.

I agree, Winelandc

(somehow my login changed to JimMachinery) I actually drove 5 hours to pick it up just based on a few photos. Something about the lines just called to me. I've been working on it for about a year now and really appreciate the quality that went into the manufacture.

My thought is to keep the appearance as original as possible while adding a few modern conveniences in inconspicuous locations. Btw, hull # is 002. (somehow my login changed to JimMachinery)

Yes,

It's a 1967 n-16ww Rocket. The attached ad was e-mailed to me from Russ Naden, the grandson of the man who founded the company. If you can, post a few pictures.

Regards,

Jim
