I have a silver liner covering the back of the seat which backs up to my engine. (I/O)

lately it has has started to tear and fall apart.

Is this liner needed (fire, noise etc..) or can I do without it?

My guess you are talking about the noise/heat insulation. Got a pic?

I don’t have a pic at this time but your description seems correct. It’s attached to the wood backing of by bench seat across the stern in front of the engine compartment.

Someone said it was just for noise reduction. If that’s the case I wouldn’t replace it.

I agree with Scott...It serves BOTH purposes. Heat and Noise Reduction. Highly recommend you replace it.
