I bought it from the original owner and it says 1978 on the title... but it also says 250hp and it has 260hp in it... I do like that the listing on the 79 model you have pointed out did reference the Mariner 22V5 and the 1978 is only 21'

5speedhemi You don't have a 78 I don't think, go to the link below it shows your model in the year 79 but not for 78 as well as a few newer.

Jim I dont think those records are 100 % correct either as you may note for both the 78 and 79 Mariner even the 79 22V5 shows it as an outboard powered boat and we all know at this point 5 speeds boat has a snarling Ford V8 in it .

Yea I take that back he could have a 78 but it's not the Mariner I was looking for Mariner his IS NOT a Mariner. Here is the link to his. If I remember right it was Rick that said yours was a Mariner

Well only you would know that I am only going by the model you posted which was 78 Starcraft, V5-22 and when you look it up that's the name that Starcraft has it as. Do you have a metal plate somewhere on the boat if so it will have the model and numbers of your boat.

Yes the plate is mid ship next to the console. Badly faded and I didn't remember seeing anything legible. Could the hull Vin number shed any light?

Take a good quality close-up photo of the plate and maybe we can photo-edit some info off of it by changing contrast, etc.

We could be sneaky that way . A super sport would have had dual consloes from the factory . A mariner would have had a single center console from the factory if you do infact have a super sport you have what many of us consider the holy grail a 22' SS.

5speedhemi, Here is the direct number to Starcraft / Smokercraft. Give them a call and that hull Vin and ask for the brochures and any questions you have about what model and year your boat is they will send that too you and tell you. Make sure you tell them that's the info you are looking for when you call then they will transfer you to the person that handles that. The 77 in the end tells me yours was a 77 year model. And Yes we would like to see more and better pics.

Thanks Jim! I called Starcraft and talked at length with Steve. He verrified that it is a 1978. He verrified that it has the deep V5 hull. He also verrified that no such boat exists! Starcraft did not make a I/O in the Islander for 78 or 79. He is going to get into the micro Fische and get me more info on what he thinks it is. He told me that is can't be a center console either! Steve said that it was a highly modified Holliday/Mariner/Islander! WoW!!!!!

Well at least we are getting closer. It won't be long now we will know what it is that you have. UMMM! where the hell are those pics? We all are waiting.

Steve called me back and the micro fische are lost. He got with the "old timers" and they all came to the same conclusion that Starcraft has NEVER made a Mariner with an I/O engine! I guess I have a one of a kind. I'm ok with that. I will be trying to get in contact with the original owners that I bought the boat from to see what they have to offer as explaination. I called Grove Marine and they don't recall anything being done to the boat other than routine maintenance and of course the giving away of the Stringer outboard to a friend that needed it on their boat. Sun is out today so maybe I can get more pictures before the sun goes down !!!
