Re: Pictures of your OMC's???

Here's a pic of my newest "APOPJ", a '56 evinrude 15hp. It was advertised as having no spark but good compression. Indeed, the coils were in pieces and it was missing the little spring that actuates the choke. I replaced the coils and used a spring I had around my shop for the choke and VOILA, a 15hp evinrude that cranked on the first pull yesterday morning and the 2nd pull this morning when it was 24 degrees out. Runs really nice and I am really enjoying it.
Thought someone might like to see a pic. In the photo it's only going about 3/4 throttle. It seems like the old 15's were exceptionally smooth running motors, I can see why so many people like them.

Nice engine JBJ.

And if you guys want a wooden boat there's a place up here that makes em cheap. Check it out gieslerboats.ca I'm amazed at how cheap they still make hand made ceder strip boats...

Gary, it looks brand new, down to the wood on the entry platform on the back. The motor looks awesome! I'm curious, is that a Ski boat?? Is that what the platform thing is for?? I'm not familiar with that style boat. Did you restore it yourself or was it already in that condition??
Interesting,

Actually its a cuddy fishing boat.I added the platform to the back after the transom rebuild. It was hard to climb into after swimming or tubing because it sets high in the water. All the teak has been redone.Since those pics i have added new electronics, more seats and replaced all the lights, rollers and wiring on the trailer.I have still not found another ChrisCraft like it.
Here is a couple before pics.Lower gearcase was shot.

Yep TD,You talked me into it.I have no regrets now that the transom is finished!
Now i just need to get the exhaust leak fixed.Put my fresh carbs back on and see if i can get over the 5200 rpms.No luck last summer.I have 2 cylinders that did not make much of a difference when i pulled the plug wires when running.Compression was good,Spark looked ok on those cylinders but was kind of hard to tell with the cheapo spark tester. It may have been more yellow than blue.
I'm going to order a couple new coils just to have to swap around.
5200 rpms and 32 mph was all i could get out of her last year.
Wish it was not so dang cold or i would be working on it now...

Wow,
that IS a difference! I really like the good, stout galvanized trailer it came with....I hate a rusty looking trailer. Anyway, that really is a nice job. I personally dread doing fiberglass work. mine always delaminates half the time.
The seats look comfortable, too. Neat pics..

Re: Pictures of your OMC's???

Thanks JBJ! I used the Seacast on the transom and it turned out really well.
I used Duponts top of the line paint on the transom,3 coats color and about 4 clear coat.It really matched up better than i expected.
I'll be getting a new Bimini top this year once i get all the other little bugs worked out.I had just put a new trim and tilt unit on,new fuel gauge and sender.Fixed the charging problem, new starter...the list goes on..;)
I really like the old boat.It rides better than any boat i have ever owned.

The fenders on the trailer had some rust so i sanded them down and coated with that truck bedliner. It turned out looking good.

Re: Pictures of your OMC's???

Since this isn't a common motor I needed to buy all the lu seals sepperate. Now I have the seals and water pump and need to take it appart again and paint and replace seals.I may need a prop shaft or repair the screwed up threads from the previous owner how put the wrong size nut on.

newer pics

I also had to find a nos prop because the po broke the shear pin and was so dumb this is how he fixed it.

Cockeyville????!!!!! ;):D

Jay, you must be serious about one of those whirlwinds..Do you think they'll last in our nasty, humid, hot, air in our nasty water???
I'd like to have one, too. I'll have to put that on my long list of "after lottery"
goodies.
