Mercury 150 Black Max ~1992 year model

150hp's came with a 2:1 bottom end. Your speed sounds about right. It will cost a bit but replace the thermostats, poppets, spark plugs, water pump kit and do a link and sync as per the factory service manual (I can't stress enough how important a correct link and sync is on these engines)...

    Can't see my boat

I believe the tow package pushes you up to 4500lbs however your boat is not light and loaded you are probably overweight. However as for your question, you can get clamp-on towing mirrors on ebay for pretty cheap and they will help.

    Powerhead interchangeability

Mercury often used the same short block with different carbs or reeds/intake to achieve different HP numbers.

    1962 Merc 60 6hp questions

You slow the engine down to shift range so you're not hammering in/out of gear at too high of rpm. The kill button is just a generic momentary pushbutton with a rubber boot. Check your local auto parts store for something that will work. I've never seen an owners manual for these, fortunately...

I need some help on paint !

Modern epoxy primers are self etching. I can't remember working with any in recent memory that even suggest being applied over a separate etching primer.

Took boat to "marine mechanic" and now it's not drivable

There can be something said for taking your boat to somewhere bigger than a one-man operation. At least that way there's a service writer and shop manager to hold accountable in addition to your credit card company being on your side. I hope mechanic #3 works out for you.

    Tiller kicker with controls? Possible?

That dude's collection astounds me. And the fact he gets them running and out on the water is fantastic! On my 1955 evinrude the throttle and shifter controls have lugs on them for remote controls to attach. I have no doubt it wouldn't be overly difficult to rig something up. If you're handy...

    Tippy aluminum houseboat

Great looking boat! I think you need to ask yourself why this boat isn't behaving now when originally when it was new it would have been just fine.

I need some help on paint !

Blast, clean, epoxy primer and single stage paint. Which ever brand of primer you use, the P-sheets for it will tell you which cleaners to use before primer as aluminum can be very particular. For a hull or a car I would do a high-build 2k primer (and sand the 2k primer smooth) between the epoxy...

    Hull Extention

Good choice! Once you see the reality of it, spending a few bucks for custom seats or custom storage to best maximize your current boat space doesn't sound so bad.

    Tiller kicker with controls? Possible?

Yes they exist. My old 1955 evinrude 15hp fastwin tiller has connections for remote controls. I don't have them but the literature said they made controls specifically for them. If you're handy at all it won't be too tough to figure out. Steering is basically a link to the main engine.

Boat winterized and summarized each year but not used in 5 years

Agreed. I wouldn't be fiddling with someone else's boat. It's his boat, he's selling it, let him start it up how he pleases. If it won't start you either run him down on price or walk away.

Boat winterized and summarized each year but not used in 5 years

I wouldn't run the boat on 5 year old gas. No way for you to know what his mechanic did, if anything. Maybe he ran the engine out of a 2L bottle, maybe he ran it on old gas, maybe he didn't run it at all. But it's his boat so if he wants to start it up, let him.

What are your opinions on this boat?

Ya let him sit on it. Maybe he'll get lucky and find a sucker. My experience has been that cheap, good projects sell quickly to the hands-on guys. The average person who has to go to a mechanic doesn't want to buy something they can't dump in the water and go. For 8k he's going to be sitting on...

What are your opinions on this boat?

His new story makes me wonder if it's overheating when pushed. Every time someone lists the problem as a "simple" fix, it's not.

Merc runs on one tank and starves out at idle on the other tank

Can you check the tank is venting air properly and not creating a vacuum inside? I would hook up an electric inline fuel pump just to test out that fuel is flowing equally through both positions of that rotary switch and your fuel lines, filters and in-tank fuel pickup tubes and that you're not...

    Towing with/without Overdrive

Fuel mileage when unloaded during normal highway driving was no better than a comparable v8 truck. Fuel mileage when towing again, no better. Throttle response on both trucks was terrible. What's the point?

    Towing with/without Overdrive

Those numbers look good on paper but in the real world those ecoboosts are turds for towing. I've towed with two and was not happy with them at all.

    Towing with/without Overdrive

What are you talking about? Torque converter is normally locked up when you're in overdrive in order to help save fuel. Unlocked converter = slip which costs you fuel mileage.

    135 Black Max opinions?

You can probably buy a used boat with a rotten hull for a couple thousand, keep the engine and part-out/sell the rest and be money ahead from rebuilding.
