I have a 1996 ZXI 1100 Kawasaki that is starting to smoke quite a bit. Since it's a 2 stroke and it premixes itself can I assume that it's just getting to much oil in the gas? If so how do you go about adjusting the oil to gas mix?

no adjustment on these pumps. You could have the pump volume checked but ZXI's do smoke. You can also swich oil types to find one that smokes less. I removed my ZXI pump completely and premixed. Premix is a pain but for me the performance gain was worth it.

thanks for the reply. Did you start doing your own premix just for performance reasons or was it something else? Also what do you use as a mixing ratio ?

I would suggest going with a good synthetic, at a 40-1 ratio. (I use Klotz) I switched over to premix when I did my rebuild. I have a lot of time and money in that motor, and the pump looks sooooo cheesy, it gives me peace of mind!

I agree with BixLL the pump may or may not be working for all you know. Why risk blowing an engine. On my ZXI I am running the pump but I always put some oil in the gas just as a precaution and I will be exing the pump soon. I believe these things are a sales gimmick (because they are sooooo convenient). Give me a break. All it took to blow this engine was one of those cheesey oil lines to fall off. I bought mine blown. Not pretty but a great deal.
