zincs on old motor

I have a 1975 johnson 50 in salt water, and need to put on some zincs. I have searched through the forums for solutions but have not found one that does not involve drilling through the motor housing. Anyone know of a spot on the motor I can attach one without drilling. Also, does the zinc actually have to be submerged to be working, or just in contact with the metal of the motor that's underwater.
Thanks.

Re: zincs on old motor

The anode ('zinc' is a commonly used but incorrect generic term) needs to be electrically bonded to the motor and submerged.

I can't be 100% sure but isn't the adjustable rudder an anode?
