There is a block zinc bolted on the lower portion of the DP-G outdrive shield. It has not been wearing much. I took it off to replace it anyway and noticed the factory paint is still there between the zinc and the bracket make contact. The only path for any electrical current to flow is thru the zinc bolts. Is that adequate or should I grind off the factory paint to the bare metal where the zinc makes contact with the shield?

Well,
the paint behind the zinc seems to have been no problem thus far. I would leave it alone. It would probably do more harm then good to remove it anyway.
The bolts should be sufficient to carry the current.
