The rectangular anode below my Yamaha 90's transom mount had to be replaced. When I took off the attachment bolts, I noticed the remains of a ring terminal connector. Then I started looking at other Yamahas and found that they all have a cable (Stranded Wire) connecting this anode to the engine just below the tilt/trim mechanism. What type of metal wire must be used here? The ones I've seen are either aluminum or tinned copper, but it's hard to tell. Something tells me this may be important, from a dissimilar metal standpoint.

Re: zinc anode connection cable

i doubt that it'd be tinned copper - that'd be fantastic at causing corrosion. As corrosion is an electric issue (i dunno how to put it, but it has something to do with current flow etc.) i would doubt that the engine is properly protected without it. On the bottom of the transom bracket of our 115hp Saltwater Merc there is a similar anode and cable, although i could be certain that ours is a stainless steel braided wire.<br />Andrew
