going down the highway i saw smoke coming from the tire so i slowed and at 5-7 mph the bearing gave-way and the wheel feel off. i know i know my fault. so i put a 6x6 under the axle and slid it boat to a parking lot. took apart. the brake hub where the inner bearing goes is broken ie no fixing, so i call a buddy he says the boats in the water pull one of his wheels. OK perfect! his brake is a 10.09 same tire size and lug pattern however his assemble wont go on??????????

now its 10:30pm in the dark, i give up. come home and internet it, seems i have bearing buddy seal savers on my spindles.

so the question is can i remove them and make his std. set up work?

this is not a fix, merely a means to get the boat off the side of the road. just need 6 miles to get home!

any help much thanks.

You tried the quick fix and it didn't work. Bearing buddies are not the problem - they attach to the hub, not the spindle. If your drum fell off, the bearing buddy would have gone with it. If your spindle is OK and your buddy's drum had the same sized bearings as yours it would have fit. The bearing size might be different, but I'd guess that the spindle was damaged as a result of the bearing failure. Go back out in the morning and have a good look at it - if the spindle is munched, you'll need a new axle. Bring a tape measure to get the dimensions (spring center and hub face distance) for the axle shop. For minimum roadside work, order a full axle assembly with brakes. You need a new drum and bearings for one side already, and the other side should be done at the same time so you're not buying much more than you need.
If the spindle is OK, measure the inner and outer bearing diameters and get the appropriate parts along with a new drum. Be sure to service the other side when you get home.

Call AAA and have it flatbed towed the last 6 miles. Or rent a trailer and do it yourself.

Sounds like that's what you need to do. Though, you might chew up his rear spindle seal if your spindle is rough under the bearing buddy seal sleeve. I'd plan on replacing the rear seal before giving the hub back to him.

Good for you, that is one reason we only go to Kentucky lake a couple times a year, the river is at the end of my road and the lake is a hour drive. i have always feared this happening to me. Good Friends are worth the Beer!!!
