Hello
I have a 1991 75HP Mariner. My Questions is:
I was offered by my boat dealer to replace my 3 75HP carbs with 3 90HP carbs for $200.
Do you think that this change will make "big" difference in speed and fuel???? and if yes how many??
Thanks

Howdy, Stemar.

Well, it's just an opinion, but I don't think you would feel like you got $200 worth of results.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

$200 is actually a pretty good deal. Smoke'n deal if he'll install. Try pricing the parts out!

The hp difference may be substantial depending on your boat. You didn't say what boat it is on. But 15 hp is 15 hp. The difference in a 75 to 90 can be major. If your Mariner is in good shape it would certainly be cheaper than upgrading to a new motor.

You will burn more fuel with the bigger venturi carbs, but you will be making more power and speed too. Backing off the throttle to your current performance make pick you up some economy?.

You'll probably need a different prop too....

I'm inclined to agree with J.B. You may not feel like you got your money's worth. By tinkering with the carbs and horsepower increase, you may find that your engine will have more problems in the future than it is really worth. Just my opinion, but I think I would leave it the way it is...better to be safe than sorry.

Just changing the carbs will not give you much more horsepower (maybe 1 or 2 more horses) but not enough to notice. About the only thing it will do is burn more gas. You would have to change exhaust plates and a few other things to actually get 90 hp. If you want more horses just get a bigger motor, its a lot cheaper.

Thanks guys for all your answers.
I think I will go with your opinion and not to do the change. As far as my prob size is 17 inch.
and my boat is 17 feet Laser boat.

Actually I just looked up the difference in part numbers between the 75 and 90. Carbs are the same and carb kit is the same. I'm not exactly sure what your dealer would do?
