Your feedback on lake cottage rentals near n/e IL

I figured who would know better than fellow boaters! I have looked at web sites but you really can't tell exactly what it's like( good / bad)... Any info would be helpfull. Looking for a weekend rental...as far as maybe 3 hours away from Chicago area, in any direction...
