Apparently some states will not allow car manufactures and buyers to do business and require a middle man.

New Jersey pulls the plug on Tesla - MSN Autos

I've read several articles on states doing this and have yet to see a "valid" reason for it other than protecting the middle man and raising the costs to the consumer.

Just doesn't seem right...

they want to sell cars that don't use gas, there is a large tax base dependent on the sale of gas, there will be resistance from the powers that be:noidea:

Keep in mind NJ is the same state you can't pump your own gas in because it would eliminate jobs. As for the Tesla dealer or lack of a dealer issue, yup this has happened in a few states. Lobby groups doing what they do.

Re: You WILL pay the middle man!!!

I've never bought a car at a dealership in my life and never would. They're sole purpose in life is to rip off their clientele, not "service" them in any way shape form or fashion. Besides, I'm not sure why the gas burners would be worried. After all, electric cars are a "dangerous and unproved technology" that will never really be able to compete with petrol, right?........WRONG!!!! They're scared sh$#$less and rightly so. Shoot, Denmark just met 122% of their energy needs using nothing but renewables, and they're half way to the Arctic Circle for Pete's sake. They MAKE money off their grid, we LOOSE money off of ours. Of course, they're passing laws against that too in places like Florida, Hawaii and the US Southwest where solar is growing so fast that the old guard are now charging people for not using their grid!?!? Just some more of that good ol' "free" market competition at work for ya ;) Oil is over. No one wants it. Paris was choked in smog the other day causing them to limit driving and you literally can't see the sky in LA or Beijing. Of course, limited driving means limited gas consumption, whcich further lessens the demand and price. The oil boys literally can't give away half of the nat gas their mining so rather than store it, they're burning off over 25% of it just to keep the prices artificially high and all while pumping thousands of tons of CO2 into the atmosphere and turning the Dakotas into a barren post-apocalyptic wasteland complete with shanty boom towns with sky high rents, rates of alcoholism, rape and depression. Then there are the oil spills in Yellowstone, coal dumps in North Carolina, the Gulf rig disaster, Arkansas pipeline rupture the list goes on and on and on........Oh, and lets not forget those foreign affairs and pesky little oil wars we keep asking the lowest 1% of our population to fight to preserve the wealth of our highest 1%. No thanks. I'll take my recyclable carbon-fiber-bodied, solar-panel-powered, turbine-tweaked electric car/wi fi hotspot/computer/portable electric generator and be on my way. A shame that a nice Russian boy had to lead the charge (pun intended) while "America the beautiful" and her "free market" stands in his way. Remember when we used to be the inventors and innovators?

The sad part is, the sheeple know it and still just go along with it.

MN had this argument as well. Funny thing is I didn't even know about it until I read it in the New Jersey story. Our local news is feelgood news only. Jersey is an interesting case because their current leader didn't do what he rode in saying he'd accomplish. Of course that in and of itself isn't shocking. I've got a lot of friends in Jersey that are less than impressed.

Also that was an epic rant kfa4303. Back in the day, I avoided dealers like the plague for used cars but it has gotten to the point that there just aren't the private party used cars available like there used to be...especially with the proliferation of leasing. It sounds like you have a lot to say.
