I have a 2007 bayliner 185 with a 3.0 and alpha 1, I'm quickly getting interested in wakeboarding but I wan't a prop that can get me out of the water quicker. there's usually 3 to 4 people with me and I fill the gas tank every time out. I don't want to completely kill my top end, I know i'll lose some. any advise would be great, thanks.

We need to know what size and pitch prop you are currently running and how many RPM's you run at WOT. You can probably get a better hole shot with a 4 blade - I am thinking 16 pitch - but that is just a guess without knowing your current setup.

I have a 21p now and it's around 4500 rpm wot. would a 4 blade prop of the same pitch give me the better hole shot, and will it drop the top end speed?

Can you spin it that fast with four people on board? The brand and type of prop (SS vs.AL)makes a big differance also, I have tried a Mich. wheel Vortex 4-blade AL 14X20 and my boat over-reved (5000rpm)and I lost quite a bit of speed, Solas Amita 4-blade AL 14X21 I was lugging (4200rpm) but my speed was the same. I then tried a Mich. Apollo SS 4-blade 14X20 and that prop worked percfect, I could run 4800RPM WOT, great holeshot, and my top speed was still good. Every boat is different, so with your 3.0 you might need to drop to a 19 pitch, quality four blade SS, if you go cheap AL, maybe a 20 will be OK, either way I think a four blade will help for wakeboarding.
