Hello all,
I just acquired a new to me 60's 14 ft Starcraft runabout with a 18HP Evinrude.
I am in the process of giving in a fresh transom. Anybody got a clue which year and model this is? I'm thinking 63's Ranger or Arrow maybe?
I was curious to how much horsepower this thing could handle.

Thanks
Lee

Cro,
I'm brand new here and don't profess to be an expert:D, but my 65 Brochure says that's a Siren. the siren came set up with back to back seats and the Arrow came with the bench seats both facing towards the front. The Siren came with a tramsom height of 21" and the Arrow at 16". Hope that will narrow it down for you. BTW, the recommended motor size was 15 to 45 HP on both with the Siren requiring a long shaft and the Arrow a short shaft.

I was gonna say maybe at least 40hp, most 14' boats of that vintage had that rating. My uncle bought a new 16' Lone Star with a 40hp johnson back then, a similar boat to the Starcraft, it was a nice boat, & fast, compared to my old 16' Thompson lapstrake wood, with a 40hp evinrude. I don't remember what that was rated for maybe 85hp? but he later got a 60 to put on it, but I do remember looking at a new 14' Lone star that was rated up to 60hp! and thought that must be a well made boat to handle that.

I'm not sure if this helps but I have a 1963 Starcraft Ranger and your boat looks very different in the transom area specifically. My 14' Ranger had a limit of 45hp motor. I have a 50hp Mercury Thunderbolt and it's pretty backheavy. I wish I had a slightly smaller motor on it although I'm not complaining.

I found a page from the '62 starcraft brochure on the internet that had my jetstar on it and the "Bahama." The Bahama is the same color, has the same bow cover ridges, folding lounge seats like it looks like yours had once and is rated for 65hp.
