Has anyone ever heard of there being a titanium flap right above the lower unit that will flap over and bog the engine down when wore out. My boat seems to looks rpm sometimes when i hit big waves ect... I had a mechanic tell me that if i drop my lower unit and look up the hosing to the bottom of the motor there is a flap there that could be flopping over. has anyone ever heard of this let me know thanks.

I do not think your mechanic is correct. There is no titanium anywhere in that motor.

It is likely your problem is electrical, and you either lose DC to the switchbox (Distributor ignition) or you lose AC to the switchbox (ADI Ignition), or the killer wire can hit ground when you hit a wave.
