Yet another hitch question

Hi, Im looking to get a boat. I currently have a 2001 ford windstar van with a class 2 frame mounted hitch rated at 3500 pounds. (factory) Im only looking to get a 16-19' bowrider or runabout. I only intend to take it back and forth to the local ramp < 5 miles. The van is a big v6 and I will probably only take the boat out about 10 times this season, if that. Do you think that would be ok? Im sure its not the best but I cant afford a truck and a boat too at this time. They make a class 3 for this vehicle too but would it be worthwhile for this vehicle and for that size boat? Thanks.

The boats total weight is within the limits of your van or it is not

I can not think of to many in the 19' range that would not be MAXING out the van at best

Yeah, I figured that. You have to wonder why ford would rate a hitch that was specifically made for that model vehicle if the rating exceeded the towing capacity of the vehicle. I'll have to look up what the rating is for the van. I know its a stretch but I figured for the few miles back and forth to the ramp, 40 mph tops, it might be ok. They also offer a class 3 with a 5000 pound capacity for the same vehicle, go figure. I know someone who trailered a big popout motor home with a 4 cylinder dodge caravan and all the experts said it was rated ok and it would be allright. Needless to say, the tranny was toast within 6 months. But those things are heavy, right?
