Yes/No Stator Question

Need a new stator for my Merc 402. While I await the new one........

Can I start the motor without a stator? Or does the stator power the electrics as well as charge the battery?

That would depend on what one, it has 2, one for the ignition power and one for charging, it will run fine with out a charging stator.
