Yellow Stain below waterline

Although I trailer my boat, I'm getting a yellow stain below the waterline after a day's boating. It continues to get worse after each trip. I've used acid based cleaners with excellent results but wonder if it will damage the fiberglass after continued use. Also there are some parts of the hull that don't get discolored. My question is what is different about the sections that don't get discolored and how do I get the rest of the hull to stay clean. This only occurs during the summer by the way...

Thanks for any advice...

This is exactly why everyone tells you not to pee in the water!!!

Just kidding, what kind of water are you boating in? What is causing the stain will determine the best method of dealing with it. Products like Starbrite Hull Cleaner contain a mild oxyalic acid solution that will not damage the gel coat. As far as why certain parts aren't staining, could be due to the porosity of the gelcoat there; how old is the boat?

The Chesapeake will do the the same thing in the Spring. Lots of wax helps but nothing I've found will completely stop it.

I use Starbrite hull cleaner once or twice a year without a problem.

Re: Yellow Stain below waterline

The boat is a 2004 26 foot Osprey Pilothouse. I use the boat mostly in Sandy Hook bay in New Jersey and the Ocean in the vacinity. I don't get the staining in the spring or fall. The hull looks and feels the same in the areas that don't stain. It's a pretty big hull to clean so I was just wondering how to get the hull from picking up the stain...

Thanks!
