Hi everyone,

Last year I purchased a 2000 Glastron SX170. It came with a Karavan classic trailer. I used the boat all summer and put it in storage in October.

Now I am thinking I should do some maintenece in the spring. I have no idea how well the previous owner kept up with maintenence.

Is the good reference on how to repack wheel bearings and grease the trailer? Any other general tips would be appreciated. I am a first time boat owner and learning as I go along.

Thanks very much.

use the red "search" function at the top of this page. search "wheel bearings" it's all been said. plenty of info there.

also always check you lights every time you hook it up. find out what type bulbs you have and have a few spares. if you tow a night unplug you lights and let them cool before launching. it also pays to unplug them during any launch and retrive. just be sure to plug them back in.

One other point with the lights......

I like to check (usually when the boat is off the trailer at the ramp) the wiring. Over time the wiring can pull and move, and occasionally get caught on the trailer. I know on my there are three or four areas where the wiring goes through the frame, and once or twice have had to fix the gromet they go through. Sometimes the wire clips that are holding the wires to the frame come off or loosen and the wires hang enough that they can get caught on something and cause some issues.

Also I like to check my grounds once or twice a season, making sure they are clean and tight.....adding vaseline or dialetic grease if need be. Don't forget the trailer has three grounds.....one at the tongue, and one at each of the rear lights where it is connected to the frame.
