Year of motor

I purchased Evinrude outboard motor yesterday. The previous owner said it was a 1973 four horsepower. The serial number is 4006e-eo7234. Model is eo7234. Could someone confirm the year and horsepower. Where is the best place to order parts? Thanks everyone for your help!

But if OB1 says 1970....I'd bet on it.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I’m somewhat of a backyard home schooled mechanic but haven’t worked on boat motors. Since this thing hasn’t been run for the last three years ago what would be the top things to replace or rebuild? I would love to purchase everything at Iboats. If someone can help me with the ordering numbers for the parts I would be indebted to you. Everyone try and have a good day.

Don't know what parts you want to replace. But the water pump impeller is 0434424 (18-3001 here at iboats)

Click on Old Website up in the orange bar at the top; then click on OEM parts, then Evinrude, then models by year, then 1970, then your model, then the diagram for the system you are working on(!) Think that’s the map….

Thanks again for the help. I do want to change the impeller but wasn’t sure if I should also order the water pump as well. For as long as the motor sat around I’m not sure I should order a carb rebuild as well. Thoughts from the pros?

Why don't you put it in the water and see if it will start and run? If it won't then you can get an idea of what is wrong. But if it does, THEN do the normal maintenance service for reliability. Points & condensers, plugs, carb clean with complete fuel system inspection including new hoses, water pump.
