I purchased a used 1988 23 ft proline with a 1997 2 stroke 225 Mercury. Did all the required tests and the comprression is on the money. I looked further and on the engine is a sticker with the serial number OT165750, year 2000, model 250xl EFI. When I put in serial number on different websites, it came back to a 250 XL EFI. Wondering, if the seller did not know what he had, or is possible the parts are interchangeable and have only listed on the 250 XL EFI. Thank you for your thoughts.

Re: year of engine

Merc shows that it is a 2000 250EFI and most likey it was swapped out after a failure. Sounds like PO subbed a later model and hp or if serial on midsection matches powerhead just the cowling was changed...
