As you can see, I don't feed my family with my mechanical prowess. I demolished the gearcase head trying to get the seal out. I would appreciate any ideas on how to repair or where replacement might be found?

Do'oh!
Oil Seal Retainer Housing PN 303050, superceeded to 397186. Used and the same on all 30, 28, 33, 35, 40 hp (mechanical shift) up into the 70s, and some if not all 25hp '51-55. Should be super-easy to find from Twin City outboard, etc.

If they want way too much for it (more than $10 IMO, but I'm a cheap skate) post back and I'll send you a spare. It'll take forever in the mail though I'm afraid.

Ebay

EDIT: You could run the one you have broken too. That's not the sealing area so it would be purely cosmetic.

Great info Paul. Thanks. When I get another maybe I can keep it in one piece. If not, at least I have proper part numbers.

Those seals barely come out right with the holes provided. Somtimes it's just easier to take them out mostly from the back, using a dremel with a cut off wheel or something to massacre the old seal. Once the stainless bit is gone you can kind of cave them in towards the centre, and pop them out.
