i know it may be premature but has anybody bought one of the f70,s?if so how do you like it so far.apparently my dealer says they wont be available for 2 weeks or so up here in the great white north.looks like it may be the answer for me as i refused to get a 75hp 4 poke that weighed 50 to 90 pounds heavier than my 90 2 stroke .with a claimed dry weight 40 to 50 pounds lighter than my 90 its loking pretty good for yamaha.looks like 260 for the f70.

Re: yammy f70

According to Yamaha motors Georgia.......the F70 will not be available until sometime in June 2010.

The F70 is the same block as the F60 and F50, yet uses larger prop shaft with 15 splines vs. 13.
Also has more valves (4) per cylinder than the F75 or F60/50.

I wanted one bad, before I pulled the trigger on a F75....did not want to wait until sometime in June.
However, after pondering this.....the 16 valves may (or not) be problamatic on a new design head.
The 50ties/60ties and F75 have been around for years and have passed the smell test (for the most part) whereas the F70 is a total new design and as yet, unproven.

As with anything of a new design, it might be better to wait until the bugs are cleaned out with 16 valves.

Re: yammy f70

your motor is 100 lbs heavier than the f70 and about 70 lbs more than my 90 .their out of the question for me due to weight ,even my 90 is too much for my purposes.though the motor is new to you and me id be suprised if yammy hasnt tested the snot out of that motor.though i understand where your coming from. i have other yamaha products and i have to say their first class.so not till june in your neck of the woods eh,bummer.hope you enjoy your motor, im sure you will love it.im proably going to wait another year anyways though not for the same reasons you stated.did the dealer give you a price on the f70?wondering if as usual us up here in canada are getting ripped off by the manufactures.up here with a prop and controls call it 10 grand.

Re: yammy f70

I know this thread is a bit old, but I'm planning on buying an F70 for my old 18' Starcraft project boat. I have a $500 deposit down on one with my local dealer.

He is saying that he won't get any until later in July.

Doesn't much matter.
My boat won't be ready for the motor until mid to late Fall at the earliest.
Besides, I haven't saved enough cash yet anyway.

I will probably not purchase the motor until early next spring.

Anyone get one yet?
Any comments?

Re: yammy f70

I put a pair of 2010 F70's on my 24' dive boat a few weeks ago. I only have 5 hours on them so far, but they run real nice. I replaced twin 2001 85 hp 2-stroke Yamahas. So far they seem to use about 25% of the fuel that the 2-strokes used. (Yes 75% less!!), but it's early days yet. The steering wasn't fun to hook up, as they were so new to the market, & no one was sure before they arrived on what tie-bar they would need.
I ordered them back in January, & waited because of the big weight difference of the 75's. It was a very long wait, but I'm very happy with them so far.

What about things like top speed, time to plane, midrange, etc.?
I know they are new and not yet broken in, but I would sure be interested in hearing your thoughts on how they stack up against your old 85's.

Thanks.
