I have the 4.3L Chevy motor with the Yammie I/O. I just recently had to replace my shift cable (with your much appreciated help) and have come across another question. The motor switch with the 2 bullet connectors, this is supposed to temporarily stall the engine when I shift from forward to reverse, correct? Well, I noticed that the assembly attached to my throttle and shift cable doesn't move the way it appears it should. If the bullet connectors are connected, my engine won't start. I can only start the engine with them disconnected. What should I do to verify that the switch and/or assembly are operating correctly? I did everything you mentioned in the other post about making sure there were 17 turns on the I/O side, the cable and slide shift smoothly with the engine off, but I don't even want to mention the sound I get with the engine running!!

Re: Yammie Question for Capt Ken

First check to be sure the little roller is in the V notch on the switch and not pushed up the V to the high side. This will ground out the coil and not allow it to start. If the roller is in the notch, check the two wire coming out of the switch with a ohm meter. If the switch is closed and you get a reading, remove the switch and check again. If you still get a closed reading, you'll need to replace the switch. If the switch reads open, then somehow its too close to the magnet on the shift arm.

What cause this unit to have to be rebuilt Rich? Its rare to have internal problems with these units and parts haven't been available for several years now.
