Hi, I sent my friend to the shop to pick up a bottle of gearcase lube for my Mercruiser 3.0 (2004) w/ alpha 1, gen 2 outdrive. He returned with a bottle of Yamalube Marine Gearcase Lube. It doesn't say SAE 90 (or anything for that matter) on the bottle. Is it safe to top off my gearlube with it, which is filled with Mercury High Performance Gear Lube+ ?

Thanks!

So... not a good idea? I'm confused by your post, but thanks for the response though. And no, I'm never lucky. I would have taken the six shots dead-on knowing my luck :)

I'm supposed to meet at the lake at 6 am tomorrow for fishing, should I call off the event?

I noticed 2 days ago that I dropped below the low line on the gear lube monitor (going to troubleshoot it this week after the heatwave). I must have caused the leak when I changed my impeller 4 weeks ago.

Have you got any idea how much you lost? The alarm will sound when it's dangerously low, you that, right? If you haven't run it since you replaced the impeller, run it! If the alarm sounds, get back home!
Good luck.

ps: Take the other stuff with, just in case! It's better than nothing. Like Bond-o says

Have you checked your local Walmart? They carry the Hi Performance gear lube. You don't want to mix the two types of gear lube.
If you can't get the Merc, get another bottle of Yamalube and change the gear lube in the drive and reservoir and use the Yamalube.
Then after the holiday, drain it, pull the drive, pressure check the drive and find out whats leaking.
