Re: yamaha40 2003 muddy water

I have an older (1989) 40 hp Yamaha that runs in mud and glacial silt with salt water mix. Never had any problems including water pump impeller (I did replace a thermostat 8 years ago). I always flush it good when I can.

Re: yamaha40 2003 muddy water

was that a statement or a question? I'd like to hear the rest, if it's a statement, but here's my replys to the question. Coming out of my canal, I hit about 50 yards of silt if I'm not on plane quickly. It has been so bad, it's clogged the intakes and the engine started to over heat. Luckily, I have a live well pump with deck wash down. I've used the hose to clean off the outside of the intakes and then plugged the hose into the engine rinse out, and have run the engine that way until I get to deeper water. It keeps the water pressure up, but wouldn't want to run it forever. I also run the hose in the motor when I come back for about 10 minutes.<br />But I'd be interested in hearing other approaches.

If you have to go a short distance 50 yards. Get a trolling motor at walmart- cheap. Use it for 50 yards and then lower your outboard and go. It is alot cheaper to pole, paddle or use the trolling motor instead of cooking the engine because of debri in the water.

Well, I could take the trolling motor off my jon boat, but I don't think a 35 lb thrust motor would move a 22 ft 3500 lb Aquasport very well. This spring's dredging (first in 20 years) will help greatly! ;)
