Hi. I am looking at buying a boat with a Yamaha outboard motor. I have a few boats that I am interested in. I want to verify the hours the owner says are on the motor. Is there anywhere I can get the Yamaha YDS software, either free or cheap?

Is there better or different software available to use on the outboard motors to get the hours?

I live in St Petersburg, FL. If anyone is near me and can let me borrow the software I would appreciate it.

Thank you very much for any information you can provide me.

Re: Yamaha YDS software

In addition to the software you also need the cable and interface module to connect to your computer. The software is worthless without the cable and module. I'd take it to a dealer. They shouldn't charge too much to hook it up and give you the basic info.....it only takes a minute to get the basic stuff like what rpm the engine has been run at for how long, total hours, past codes, etc.., and you don't even have to start the engine.

I'm in NC. If you were close I'd do it for you. Maybe you can find someone close with the system.

If you want to buy the system, the old version (1.33) is available here for around $500 plus $50 shipping: http://www.brpdiagnostics.com/yamahaydspwcdiagnostic/

If you want the new 2.0 system you will need to dig deep into the wallet cause it is $1300. You can order it from here: http://www.simyamaha.com/category_s/1732.htm

Re: Yamaha YDS software

Ernest,

Thanx for the info. You are correct. It is much cheaper to go to a dealer or repair shop. I was hoping the software was around a $100. I wanted to see what one of the reports looked like so I understand the data. Just in case the owner takes the boat himself to get the data I want to make sure the report is authentic. Need to be careful when buying a used boat.

I appreciate your feedback.
