I have a 1998 XL1200. Recently, it is giving me trouble starting when cold. It appears when cold, there is no gas in the fuel filter. Removing the tank side line and blowing in will cause gas to burp back through the line when the pressure is removed. If I re-connect the fuel line to the filter, it will eventually fill the filter. Once the filter is full, the ski will fire up and run fine. After it's warmed up, you can start it with a single push of the ignition switch.

Today, I replaced both the check valve and the fuel filter. I re-primed the fuel filter as described above and it ski ran great. I'm not sure the problem is solved. I am looking for some feedback and ideas in case I get up to the lake next weekend and I have the same problem.

Thanks for your help!

basically it is time to rebuild the carbs,, you can check for loose fuel line connections that may be letting air in the fuel system and allowing the fuel to leak back to the tank.
