96 waverunner III, engine sputters and runs rough in "on" mode of fuel switch, runs smoothly when on "reserve" mode. Is it possible the fuel line is clogged? How would I replace it? Any other ideas?

Re: Yamaha Waverunner fuel problem

most makes have the same trouble after a few years, best thing to do is eliminate the switch completely and hook directly to the reserve nipple of the tank.I usually do that on any ski more than 4 years old the pot metal switch gets corroded internally and they also leak air in to the fuel lines and starve your fuel system. if you preferr just leave it on reserve or replace the switch.but it is a common problem and isn't the line but the switch itself, its probably allowing air in to the line and acting like its plugged up the pulse pump only creates 2 or 3 lbs of vacume and it will pull air a lot easier than fuel.

Thanks for the help. I have been running with the reserve tank on and it seems to work fine. This is a cheapy model without a gas gauge so we have to check the gas level each time we use it.

don't kid yourself most guages aren't reliable the only way to know the amount of gas you really have is the P U H method" peek under the hood"
