If you where going to purchase an outboard in the range of a 150 - 200hp. You prefer the Yamaha or the Suzuki? My friend is about to make a purchase and I am trying to persuade him. I won’t give my opinion here because I want to find out if I’m nuts or on target.<br />Thank you - it will be brand new not used.

Re: Yamaha vs Suzuki

He has been going back and forth between the suziki and yamaha. he had a merc 200 and it went pop two weeks ago. when i say pop i mean came apart at WOT and created a new intake in the side of it. he had it less then 2 months, no warrenty etc.. What i am asking is what is the better if the two motors yam or suz.

I believe I'd go with the Yamaha. Suzuki is a good motor too, but usually a little short on dealer network. I understand there is a shortage of big Yamahas, so may have to pay a premium.

Heck buy another merc ---or rebuild the old one --yam and sucki's blow up too ! New optimax would be nice or the new evinrudes both of which get supper good economy on the gas.. Ya know the dealer net work is in place... Hey remember you are spending his money ---and ya don't have to pay it back (what a friend) hehehe
