Yamaha Trim and Tilt Problem

brentg <br />First Mate <br />Member # 33422 <br /><br /> posted September 25, 2003 01:41 PM <br />--------------------------------------------------------------------------------<br />I have a 1986 Yamaha 40 hp, the tilt trim also does not work, the motor for the trim does work but since i bought the boat I have had to manually pull up and down the motor in order to use the boat, from what I have read on this article, I therefore believe that I am also locked in the hydrolic system, is this true??<br /><br />I also have another problem I would like to ask you, my oil pump is locked in full which there for lockes the carburator in full throttle. been awhile since i did a build up on my 87 50hp. but i will try to help. if i remember correctly there is a bypass valve on the rt side of the motor lower on the tilt assy ( strait slot screw driver) that allows you to move the motor in case the tilt unit fails. if you can tilt the motor by hand this valve might be in the bypass position. if the tilt motor runs you might have to add fluid after closing this valve. as far as the oil pump,it sounds like it has failed. GOOD! now you can eliminate it(simple process)and pre mix your oil. my memory of that motor is getting foggy but i hope i have pointed you in the right direction. regards fred.
